April SRY Series
SOMA – “Soma relates to the deeper aspects of yoga. Calming, rejuvenating practices that slow us down, take us within, and bring us to non-doing – that is a soma practice.” David Frawley
SOMA is major missing component in our culture and even in yoga culture. Most of the influences in modern yoga are men, therefore the practices are not geared toward women, even though the majority of practitioners are women.
SOMA – there are ways to cultivate our inner Soma Nectar with proper sleep, food, the way we use our mind, the rejuvenative practices of yoga like Soma Release Yoga (asana, pranayama, meditation, yoga nidra)
LOW SOMA? What happens when our Soma is low? Depletion, pain, fatigue, dryness, reactive, adrenal issues, forgetful, fight or flight response in hyper alert mode.
PLENTIFUL SOMA - What happens when Soma is plentiful? Contentment, comfortable in your own skin, lustrous skin/hair/nails, balanced appetite, supple bones, strong immune system, sense of calm, flexibility, supple body/bones/joints
I dedicate the sharing of this teaching to my teacher and friend Kaya Mindlin. She is the one who brought these teachings to Portland in 2018 after observing so many of her yoga students and Yoga Therapy clients having series issues with depletion and fatigue. To find out more about Kaya and SRY yoga.

SRY™ – Spinal Release Yoga (Also known as Supreme Release Yoga) Release the deepest tensions in your body, mind and heart. SRY is delivered via group classes, and Yoga Therapy. Kaya also offers immersions and trainings in SRY. This rejuvenating yoga goes beyond other restorative or meditative approaches. The poses directly decompress the five segments of your vertebral column in sequence. As you release spinal tension, you increase internal space and resolve problematic mental and emotional patterns mapped in the subtle body. Individual attention, hands-on adjustments, meticulous alignment and supportive props ensure the practice is effective and personalized. Rather than a forceful workout or stretching competition, SRY offers blissful inner opening, physical healing, life transformation, and inner illumination.
