Testimonial from Anh Chi - who has gone on to do the NSR Training Janis is one of my friends who is always learning, growing and doing "cool" things. So, when she told me about this opportunity to work with her as a client using the Nervous System Reset protocol, I said yes. Even though I have been doing yoga and other somatic practices for awhile, I recognized how profound and essential NSR is after the first session. Going through the process with Janis, I always felt safe and supported. I could be in the tremoring much more deeply in her presence. Now, I have been able to use this new-found relationship I have with my nervous system in order to help me get unstuck from anxiety and overwhelm

After initial consultation with Janis I felt a huge sense of relief because suddenly there was someone who understood the depth of the inner processes. During the first few sessions I was introduced to practices that shifted my focus from mind to my body - something that I never really paid attention to. First I was quite unsure whether I was doing the practice correctly, but Janis's thorough guidance led me to where I am at now - having a deep, calming practice that I'm actually looking forward to doing! It's quite amazing how it helped me to attune into my body more and more. When I go through challenging situations I am now more gentle with myself and my body - I try to listen to it rather than pushing it where my mind wants it to be. It truly is resetting of my own system and the effects feel like I'm arriving home - to myself.
My sessions with Janis were never just about learning and practicing something new. She has an extensive knowledge from other fields too (be it yoga or women's groups), so she can attune into what's needed in the particular moment. I felt I could be just myself and come into the sessions openly, showing my vulnerability and knowing I will be held and acknowledged. And that's not to forget her great sense of humor!
Sex and your Nervous System Why/how does working with your Nervous System have an affect on your sex life?
“The human body can’t produce stress hormones and sex hormones at the same time; the body prioritizes which hormones to produce based on the messages from our nervous system, and they are reciprocally connected. If we produce more sex hormones, we’ll produce fewer stress hormones. If you’re stuck in the stress modes of your system – fight, flight or freeze physiology due to incomplete expression of something that happened in your past-you will produce less of the feel-good hormones.” Kimberly Ann Johnson from Call of the Wild
Testimonial by Lisa C - who loved it so much she did the training to become a NSR Practitioner!
Prior to starting my sessions with Janis my mom had passed away. It was a very stressful time. She had been unwell for a long time which I realize now kept me in a state of fight/flight. A few months after she passed away I had a sudden medical procedure which was extremely painful. This woke me up to all the other medical procedures I had experienced that were painful and traumatizing to me. That coupled with my mom's death made me realize something was going on with me and I needed help. I then began to do research on the nervous system. I began to realize I was living in a state of fight or flight all the time. I began to realize I had nervous system dysregulation and I needed someone to help me find balance and peace in my life again.
After I started working with Janis, I was given several different resources that supported me and my nervous system to become more balanced. For example, I learned several orienting practices in particular help me to feel calm and safe in my environment. Now that I have incorporated these resources into my life, I feel so much better! I feel more present. I feel that I can slow down rather than rushing around, I feel much calmer and far less anxious.
Testimonial from a long time Yoga Therapy client, who I did NSR with recently (2022/23)
I decided to try NSR because I felt an underlying layer of anxiety and grief that I was afraid to access, but it seemed to weigh me down and make decisions difficult. It was affecting my body with tension and abdominal issues. I also experienced sudden bouts of incapacitating anxiety when facing unexpected problems, like a computer malfunction. I wanted tools to handle the emotions in a safe way.
During the NSR work, it was a relief to find easy practices that actually down-regulated my feelings in the moment, a relief that I didn’t need to know the causes of the feelings before helping myself. I began to sleep better, to have less tension, and to engage with my husband in a more relaxed way. Problems that might have triggered anxiety seemed far less huge, and I could work out solutions. It became easier to make decisions without worrying about the consequences. And I had safe access to a fluid range of emotions, including a well of laughter!
Janis has been my yoga therapist for years, and she is a sweetheart! I always feel safe with her because I know she’s dedicated to my well being and accepts my boundaries. Her yoga experience has given her an uncanny ability to read what’s going on with her client’s body/mind, but she will not assume she is correct without checking. She is unstinting in her positive outlook, nonjudgmental, patient and flexible. And I’m sure she knows what she’s talking about!
